Nam Yeuang Dams Hydropower by Hobo Maps- Go to Hydropower Projects Page - - Home
The Nam Yeuang cascade hydropower project is a collection of six projects along the Nam Yeuang river in Houaphan province Lao PDR close to the Vietnam border.
Nam Yeuang Hydropower project general location shown in satellite images below:

The project seems to be owned in full or in part by Electricitie du Laos (EDL) with negotianions under way in 2025 for a transfer of its share to EDL-GEN.
The 84 MW project is being developed by Lao-based Phongsupthavy Group.

In year 2022 the project was in the planning and permitting stage. Construction was to commence in 2023 and the projects were expected to enter into commercial operation in 2025 but that date has not been realized. Not sure if the power purchase agreements are to be extended or by how much.
A Memorandum of Understanding for a Power Purchase Agreement was signed December 2020 between Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Phongsubthavy Group regarding the development of the Nam Yeuang Hydropower Project cluster in which EVN agreed to offtake all power from the 84 MW cluster and import it into Vietnam starting in 2024-2025.
On June 28, 2021 a formal Power Purchase Agreement was signed with EVN.
The six separate hydropower sites have approximate planned capacities roughly-stated below:
1A (15 MW)
1B (10 MW)
2A (15 MW)
2B (15 MW)
3A (15 MW)
3B (14 MW)

Google Maps shows the locations of all six Nam Yeuang power project locations below but doesn't detail the precise coordinates:

Nam Yeuang 2A site image below as posted on Google Maps by a Vietnamese guide in 2025. Unsure if this is actual dam site or just an area photo.

Various news reports in June 2021 reported that Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has executed power purchase contracts with a series of hydropower plant investors in Laos. Specifically, EVN exchanged power purchase contracts with Phongsupthavy Group for the Nam Yeuang hydropower plant cluster, the Nam Mo 2 project, Nam Tai, Nam Sak, Nam Sao and Nam Chao hydroelectric plants.
Not sure of the route for a transmission line yet but Nam Yeuang cluster is close to the Nam Sam hydropower group which exports power to Nong Cong substation in Vietnam.
On December 21, 2024, the Vietnamese National Power Transmission Corporation announced the successful completion and energizing of the 220 kV Nam Sam-Nong Cong transmission line project. This project was initially scheduled for completion in 2022 for export of power to Vietnam from the Nam Sam area hydropower cluster which includes Nam Sam 1A, Nam Sam 3, Nam Sam 3A, Nam Neun 1 & 3, the 6 dams of the Nam Yeuang cascade and maybe Nam Peun.
Map below shows our best guess where the transmission line may be. See enlarged map version HERE.
