Nam Kiew (Kiao) Dam Hydropower by Hobo Maps - Go to Hydropower Projects Page - - Home
Nam Kiew Hydropower project is located in Mok District, Xieng Khouang Province of northern Lao PDR, but we aren't sure of the precise location.
Nam Kiew Hydropower project is developed by Phongsupthavy Group with intent to sell output to Vietnam when the project is completed.
The project is reportedly still under construction in 2024.
The project is planned to have two Pelton turbines at 5.151 MW each = 10.3 MW total capacity - with 1.32 meter runner diameter
The project has a head of 581 meters.
Nam Kiew (Kiao) Hydropower project is probably located somewhere on the Mok District map below but we aren't sure where.

Phongsupthavy website groups Nam Pung and Nam Kiao (Kiew) hydropower projects together as having combined capacity of 20 MW. From this we are assuming the two projects are located in the same area but we could be wrong. Precise locations for both are not known.
In satellite image below we are assuming the river that flows by Ban Nam Pung is called Nam Pung and that Nam Pung & Nam Kiew Hydropower projects are in the same general area but this needs to be confirmed.

A company called "Fmlao" did civil work for the project between Nov. 2022 & Dec. 2023 as seen in construction images below.

Various news reports in June 2021 reported that Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has exchanged power purchase contracts with Phongsubthavy Group for the Nam Yeuang hydropower plant cluster, the Nam Mo 2 project, Nam Tai, Nam Sak, Nam Sao and Nam Chao hydroelectric plants. Since Nam Kiew HPP is probably located close to these plants, it might be easy to add output from Nam Kiew to this 220 kV export transmission line.
