Nam Khao Dams 1 to 5 Hydropower Info by Hobo Maps - Go to Hydropower Projects Page - - - HOME
The Nam Khao (river) is a tributary of the Nam Khan (river) in Xieng Khouang Province, Lao PDR. The Nam Khao flows mostly east to west in a remote area north of Muang Kham and Phonsavanh towns until it joins the Nam Khan near the village of Sop Khao at coordinates 19°53'17.5"N 103°13'52.8"E (19.888194, 103.231333).
Sadly there is almost nothing on the web about these 5 dam projects and how they are progressing. The planned capacities are listed below:
Nam Khao 1 - 15 MW
Nam Khao 2 - 15 MW
Nam Khao 3 - 15 MW
Nam Khao 4 - 15 MW
Nam Khao 5 - 7.5 MW
Total - 67.5 MW
The developer is B. Grimm Power Public Company Ltd., a large Thai company with a history of operating quality power projects.
Nam Khao Hydropower Company Ltd. is in charge of the construction projects.
Lao-based SV Group is also involved in this project.
Construction site image below of one project from the developer website but we don't know which dam it is of the 5.

Satellite image below shows Sop Khao village at the very top and Phonsavanh at very bottom. The Nam Khao river flows from Ban Tha near National Road 1C up to Sop Khao where it joins the Nam Khan. The Nam Khao 5 dam sites are probably spread out along the river below but we aren't sure.

In their promotional chart below, B. Grimm Power was hoping to bring Nam Khao 4 online in 2022, Nam Khao 2 in 2023, Nam Khao 3 in 2024 and Nam Khao 1 & 5 online in 2025
