Nam Beng Dam site is about 15 km northeast of Pak Beng town in Houn Distrrict, Oudom Xay Province, Northern Lao PDR - on the Nam Beng (river) beside National Road 2W.

The 34-megawatt Nam Beng dam project became operational in 2017 and is able to generate 136 GWh of output annually to EDL for domestic consumption in Laos.

The project owner is Nam Beng Power Company Co., Ltd.

China National Electric Equipment Corp. has a 90% ownership interest and operates the project under a 27-year concession agreement. The Lao government under EDL GEN has a 10 percent ownership interest.

The Nam Beng (river) receives its water from the 1,908 square km Nam Beng watershed drainage basin with all flow merging into the Mekong River.

As part of its dam safety planning and operational readiness, Connected Consultant Sole Co., Ltd. was subcontracted by TA DAM Energy Consulting Co., Ltd. to prepare the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for Nam Beng HPP. This included hazard identification, risk assessments, emergency scenarios, and communication and response mechanisms designed to safeguard downstream communities and infrastructure. The work helped enhance the project’s preparedness for potential dam-related emergencies and aligned it with both national safety requirements and international best practices.
