Got to Window 2 to get visa extension application form below. They have nice desks and ink pens.

After submitting your passport, application form and one passport photo they give you back the form to take to other window below where you pay fees - in July 2025 I paid 20,000 kip per day extended plus a handling fee of 50,000 kip. Seems they no longer give discount for visitors over 65 years old.

They give you back a copy of your passport page with a pick-up slip attached for day and time to return for passport.

In late May 2022 the Laos Immigration Dept. offices in Vientiane moved to a new location outside of the central area. The new location is in a nice new government office building not too far northeast of the airport main runway but quite far away from the airport terminal buildings. The map below shows the location in red with a star marker.

Luang Prabang visa extension info below:

Lao Immigration offices have moved to a new location in the new government complex under construction next to the Sports Complex (former Asean Games) in southeast Luang Prabang. Visa extensions office is on the ground floor of the big green building. The sign at the outdoor entrance says "Police" and doesn't say "Immigration".

The Monday-Friday office hours are 08:00 to 11:30 and 14:00 to 16:00. For visa extension apply in the morning and pick up passport next day at 15:00. Might be possible to get same-day service for an extra 100,000 kip fee.

Need 2 passport photos 3 x 4 cm or 16,000 kip instead for scan fee.

In 2025 the fees for tourist visa extension are 50,000 kip processing fee and 20,000 kip per day for as many days as you want to extend up to 30 days maximum. For some seniors over 65 the fee might be bargained to 150,000 kip for a 30 day extension.
